Fair Finance Asia’s Sessions at Bangkok Climate Action Week

Fair Finance Asia (FFA) and Fair Finance Thailand (FFT) will conduct a series of multi-stakeholder discussions as part of the first-ever Bangkok Climate Action Week (BKKCAW) from Tuesday, September 30, to Friday, October 4. 

Under the overarching theme, “Financing a Just, Inclusive, and Equitable Future: Mobilizing Community Voices for Asia’s Just Transition,” these sessions will facilitate important and timely discussions on how to strengthen regional and national multi-stakeholder collaborative strategies that can urgently redirect more finance and momentum toward Asia’s climate and just transition goals. 

The schedule is detailed below. If you would like to join any of the sessions in-person or online, please register here. SEATS ARE LIMITED so we encourage you to register by Tuesday, September 23, or at the soonest convenience. All registration submissions will be reviewed, and you will be notified of the sessions you have been accepted to on Friday, September 26. If seats are full in your preferred session, you will receive a link to participate online. 

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 (all times are GMT+7) 

1:00 PM-3:00 PM: Combatting Social and Climate Inequality through Enhanced Transparency and Financial Disclosures (consultation with CSOs) 

On September 30, FFA will conduct a session to facilitate consultations among Asian civil society organizations (CSOs) on their insights about climate inequality as a systemic financial risk that can be effectively addressed through enhanced transparency and financial disclosures. Building on the pioneering work of the Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD), the session will collect Asian CSOs’ feedback on strategic ways to integrate social and inequality metrics that will enable investors, businesses, and policymakers to identify and mitigate risks while driving more equitable and resilient outcomes.  

3:15 PM-4:30 PM: Hack the Gap: Strategizing for the Sustainability of a Robust and Resilient Civil Society in Asia 

On September 30, FFA will bring together allied CSOs and key stakeholders in a fundraising hackathon to collaboratively generate strategic ideas that go beyond traditional grants and think outside the box in terms of the change they seek to achieve, how they will achieve it, and who to partner with for long-term sustainability and impact. 

4:45 PM-6:00 PM: Going Viral: Strengthening Youth-led Digital Campaigns on Climate Action and Just Energy Transition 

On September 30, FFA and FFT will conduct a session that will delve into key components of successful digital campaigns, including audience segmentation, compelling storytelling, and strategic use of multi-platform content. The session will cover best practices for creating engaging visual assets, using data to inform decisions, and building collaborative networks with other youth activists and organizations. 

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1 (all times are GMT+7) 

9:15 AM-10:00 AM: Press Conference: Holding Asian Financial Institutions Accountable for Social and Environmental Impacts of Cross-border Energy Transition Financing 

On October 1, FFT will host a press conference on the crucial and evolving role of Asian financial institutions in the regional and global climate agenda. As the world’s most dynamic economic region and home to a significant portion of the global population, Asia faces both immense climate vulnerabilities and a powerful opportunity to lead the just transition. The press conference will feature leading voices who will offer insights and collaborative strategies for accelerating climate-aligned investments. 

10:15 AM-12:00 PM: Financial Accountability and Community Voices in Asia’s Cross-border Energy Transition

On October 1, FFT will conduct a session that will explore how to move beyond traditional financing models to one that elevates the principles of social justice, and will spotlight strategies to align financial mechanisms and policies with the priorities and the needs of frontline communities, ensuring they are not just passive recipients but active agents in decision-making and benefit-sharing. 

1:00 PM-2:30 PM: Strengthening the Alignment of Asia’s Financial Sector with Climate Commitments 

On October 1, FFA will conduct an open mic session for FFA national coalitions, allied Oxfam programs, and other organizations from Thailand and across the region to present bank policy assessments outcomes and other case studies which highlight gaps in climate action. These presentations will be followed by elevator pitches inviting audience members to collaborate with them on initiatives to advance climate action and just transition.  

2:45 PM-4:15 PM: Unpacking the Risks and Impacts of the Global Race for Asia’s Critical Minerals

On October 1, FFA will conduct a session that aims to move beyond the simple narrative of resource demand and supply, to foster a more nuanced dialogue on building transparent, equitable, and sustainable finance mechanisms and cross-border investments for the region’s critical mineral value chains. The session will explore collaborative solutions, from regional policy frameworks to responsible corporate practices that respect the rights and well-being of communities as well as their role as active agents in decision-making, ownership, and benefit-sharing.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3 (all times GMT+7) 

7:00 AM-9:00 AM: Strides of Solidarity: Run for Climate Justice and Just Transition that Leave No One Behind

On October 3, FFA will bring people together to support sustainability, environmental protection, and social well-being. Beyond technical sessions, this run will provide an opportunity for participants from all walks of life, such as the youth, professionals, community members, and policymakers, to connect with one another, and demonstrate a collective commitment to a greener future.  

Notes to participants: 

  • Please arrive promptly at 7:00am to register.  
  • Bring your running shoes, gear, creative banners, and key messages in support of Asia’s journey to climate justice and just transition!  
  • A water refilling station will be provided. Please also bring your own water bottles to avoid unnecessary waste.  
  • All registered participants will be provided a bib. You can pick this up before the start of the run, or at our registration table in front of Ballroom 3 at the Conrad Bangkok Hotel on Tuesday, September 30, from 12:30pm-5:00PM and on Wednesday, October 1, from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.
