Fair Finance Asia (FFA), with support from data storytelling studio Kontinentalist, has produced two data visualizations that amplify key messages and recommendations from FFA’s new report, Enhancing Sustainable Finance in Mekong Hydropower: Challenges, Opportunities, and Ways Forward. This report was developed in collaboration with Profundo, and in consultation with national coalitions in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Thailand.
Visualization 1 highlights key gaps in national and regional regulations, and in the environmental and human rights due diligence (HRDD) policies of banks providing cross-border financing to Mekong River hydropower projects (access the PDF file here).
Visualization 2 highlights the concerns of local communities, Indigenous Peoples (IPs), women, and other vulnerable groups regarding the immense social and environmental impacts of hydropower dam projects in the Mekong, as well as recommendations for financial institutions and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (access the PDF file here).
