On March 29, 2023, Fair Finance Asia (FFA), Swedwatch, United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) Regional Office for South East Asia, and Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) will conduct a side event alongside the 10th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) in Bangkok, Thailand from 12:15-13:30 (GMT+7), titled, “Financing and Safeguarding a Just Transition in Asia: Trends and Future Pathways for Just and Inclusive Transition to a Zero-Carbon Economy.”
Through moderated discussion with experts and stakeholders, the event will highlight regional trends, opportunities, and gaps, as well as social and environmental challenges involved in renewable energy transition. It will also highlight the importance of different state and business actors, including financial institutions and energy operators in gender mainstreaming, and other mechanisms to mitigate environmental damage and human rights violations in renewable energy projects. The event will seek to facilitate a dialogue on future pathways to achieve just and inclusive transition to a zero-carbon economy in the Asia Pacific Region.
During the side event, FFA will present the key findings and recommendations from FFA and SEI’s report, “Financing the Just Transition: Powering Asia’s Sustainable Energy Future” along with research partners Profundo and Strategia Development Research Institute (SDRI).
